The Fall

{The Inseparable – part 3 }Even after two days, Kiara was still waiting for Osmo to call. Osmo’s projected return date has already passed. As Kiara felt restless, she regularly monitored the weather on the specific cliff where they had gone on their trek. She had a solid grasp of the situation and could foresee what the two friends would have undergone. In spite of her desire to avoid dark thoughts, she started thinking about what’d occur if she travelled to that specific trekking location due to her wanting to meet Osmo. But she was clear that while she really cannot stay at home, she also cannot travel alone. She therefore finally made the decision to somehow inform her dad about this now (whom she thinks of as her moral support).

As Kiara went downstairs to meet her dad, she found him sitting on the couch with Osmo’s dad. She was so stunned that she wasn’t sure whether to proceed to walk up or down. She slowly descended and stood next to the magazine rack while acting as though she was looking for a magazine. She thought that Osmo’s dad had returned to complain about them. Even so, she suddenly noticed Osmo’s dad crying while her dad was comforting him. She went close to him and heard that Osmo had been spotted in a mountain range and had been hospitalized. Osmo’s dad had requested for a company to join him because he was worried about how to deal with things given the news that Osmo was in a coma. Osmo’s father was perplexed as to how his son ended up on a cliff. As she reacted, at first she was shaken by the news and could not bear to hear it, and then Kiara explained to him about Osmo’s trek with his friend Berry. Seeing both dads conversing made her feel a little more at ease. She insisted on going with them to see Osmo. So they hurried to the hospital right away.

Kiara hurried to the ICU as soon as they got to the hospital. Osmo’s voice in her head, saying “I will be back in two days,” was all that Kiara could hear while they waited outside the door. Kiara started crying. The minute Kiara’s dad realised he was unable to comfort his daughter, he started crying too. They weren’t initially permitted in the ICU. They later went inside with special permission and saw Osmo. He had a full-on sleeping appearance and was lying in an unexpected manner. There was never an answer when Kiara called Osmo multiple times. Osmo’s dad shouted, “Baby boy, please get up,” yet there was no response. According to the doctor, comas rarely last longer than two weeks. They determined it was caused by a traumatic head injury. The doctor added that if the patient awoke from a coma within six hours, things would get better. But in Osmo’s case, he had already crossed six hours, so they suggested it might take some weeks to recover.

Kiara was unable to see Osmo lying there, lifeless. She then cried as she came out. The dads were completely trembling. Their eagerly anticipated surprise for their children has fizzled. They attended Osmo’s friend Berry, who experienced only chillblains owing to the harsh weather, but otherwise he was well. Berry outlined the circumstances they faced. He was deeply sorry about Osmo’s situation. According to him, the walk went well at first, and both people enjoyed learning about the surrounding area. However, as they proceeded ahead, they were unable to make out the trail due to the fog. He then stated that they’d have to wait for the fog to subside. They don’t want to wait either because it will soon get darker, there is a strong wind, and the terrain is slippery. They then began to retrace their tracks using the marks they had already made. Their marks were really the lone trees and the distinctively shaped mountains. And though Berry was taking medication, he lost control of his speech and continued to describe their trekking adventure rather than getting straight to the point. Suddenly, he ended up saying that Osmo slipped while grabbing for his scarf. After hearing this, Kiara began to probe him further. He said that they encountered a severe wind while attempting to return home, at which point Osmo’s woolen scarf—which he was wearing—was blown away by the gusts of wind.Berry asked him to ignore it and continue walking, but Osmo refused and started chasing after the scarf, causing him to slip and fall. He was able to slide easily because the terrain was covered in friable rocks. As he rushed to save Osmo, he found him to be unconscious, but he could still make out the scarf he had been running after in his hand. Berry said, “I TRIED TO WAKE HIM UP, BUT HE NEVER OPENED HIS EYES OR RESPONDED,” so he carried him for a while because that was the hour when wild animals may cross. While Berry carried Osmo in the cold, his toes began to swell, which stopped him from walking. He consequently became scared upon seeing Osmo’s condition and his toe. He was unable to take even one step, so he remained there for hours without food. This made him exhausted, and gradually he too lost consciousness. He said he opened his eyes when a few people arrived to save them.

We all know that Osmo was chasing after the scarf Kiara had handmade for him as a symbol of their love. Feeling her legs unsteady and not being able to stand as a result of hearing this, Kiara shook and was forced to sit down. She craved seeing Osmo and wanted to kiss his forehead. At that moment, Sasha, who came along with the rescue team, grabbed Kiara and tried to comfort her because she couldn’t stop crying. Sasha really couldn’t introduce herself to Kiara at the time, but she was deeply moved and felt really bad for the girl. Osmo was tightly holding a scarf in his hand when Sasha found him, so she could easily imagine their love. As Berry explained the scenario, Sasha was nearby and was able to make the connection between Kiara and Osmo. Sasha encouraged Kiara and urged her to go speak to Osmo so that Osmo might respond. After hearing these words of encouragement from an unknown source, Kiara felt more confident and decided to head over to the ICU with the hope that we could somehow bring Osmo back. Her inner voice assured her that she could quickly bring Osmo back. She could imagine Osmo getting better and playing her favourite song for her. She has trouble getting permission to enter the ICU and visit Osmo due to the other patients there. She then stood outside the door and saw Osmo peering through the tiny glass panels. Kiara’s patience gradually diminished each time the nurse had to swing open the door in order to get in or leave. When she at last made it to the doctor’s cabin, she begged him to let her visit Osmo in the intensive care unit. The doctor finally consented to transferring the patient to a regular ward after conducting some tests.
